The School
Pakefield is the first new high school to be built by Suffolk County Council in over 20 years. It is being built in three phases on the site of Pakefield Middle School with the construction of Phase 1 starting in late 2010.
Pakefield opened as a Foundation School in September 2011 with 370 pupils in Years 7 and 8 only. A new cohort of pupils will join in September 2012. The Pupil Admission Number (PAN) is 180 places and all of these have been taken up. A new Year 7 cohort will join each year until Pakefield reaches its capacity of around 900 pupils in 2014.
To begin with the School opened in the existing middle school buildings, but Phase 1 will be completed in the Summer of 2012. From this point both the existing middle school buildings and Phase 1 will be used until Phases 2 and 3 are completed. Eventually the School will be housed completely in brand new, sustainable buildings with state of the art technology.
