Head of School Weekly Update - Friday 26th November

Dear Parents and Carers

We celebrated a range of student achievements at our 2021 Celebration Evening, held at The Marina Theatre on Tuesday. It was great to catch up with our former students and see how they are progressing with their post 16 courses.

Awards were presented for each subject, as well as special awards highlighting particular successes. Robyn Krykant won the Outstanding Academic Performance award, as she secured grade 9s across all GCSEs. There was also an award for Outstanding Achievement in History – this was given to Isabelle Hart who achieved five grades above her target. In addition to the awards, students came on stage to be presented with their GCSE certificates. I hope recognition of their efforts spurs them on to continued and further success in the future.

The evening also gave us an early glimpse of our school production of Back to the 80s. The cast had been busy rehearsing ‘Kids in America’, and didn’t disappoint with a performance choreographed by Jasmine Young and Holly Rigby in Year 11. It’s great to have a school production to look forward to next March, after a COVID enforced break from these important whole school events.

Moving forwards, we look ahead to a busy fortnight of mock exams for our current Year 11 students. These start with the first of two English Language papers on Monday morning and continue through to Friday 10th December. During my assembly on Thursday, I stressed the importance of proper preparation for these exams. Revision, along with plenty of sleep the night before, are the keys to success – if students can confidently say they were prepared, they can hold their heads high as they leave the hall after each exam.

Finally, congratulations to the Year 10 rugby team who played away at St Felix on Thursday. Despite suffering a narrow defeat, Mr Herbert was impressed with the way in which the team represented the school. The referee also complimented the team on their excellent attitude – exactly what we want to see!

Enjoy what looks like a wet and windy weekend. I’m planning to start my Christmas shopping, and am debating whether I brave the crowds or do this online…

Best wishes

Mr Dan Bagshaw
