Teaching & Learning at Pakefield
At Pakefield High School, we believe that every student can achieve success when they are provided with excellent teaching, clear routines and high expectations. Our classrooms are places of purpose, ambition and challenge, where students are encouraged to think deeply, work hard and take pride in their achievements.
We know that great teaching has the greatest impact on student success. That is why we have developed a consistent approach to teaching and learning that ensures every student benefits from high-quality lessons, regardless of the subject they study. Our teachers are experts in their fields, committed to helping students develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to thrive both in school and beyond.

The Pakefield Lesson
Our teaching is built around a clear and evidence-informed approach known as the Pakefield Lesson. Across all subjects, lessons are carefully structured to help students learn effectively and remember more over time.
This includes:
Reviewing and Revisiting Learning. Students regularly revisit previous knowledge and make connections between topics, helping them to strengthen understanding and improve long-term memory.
Effective Questioning. Teachers use questioning strategically to check understanding, encourage thinking and ensure that every student remains actively engaged in learning.
Expert Modelling. Teachers carefully explain new concepts, demonstrate processes and break learning into manageable steps, ensuring that all students can access challenging content.
Guided to Independent Practice. Students develop confidence by practising new skills with support before applying them independently and tackling increasingly challenging tasks.
