Uniform
Our school uniform is an important feature in our school's ethos and our commitment in fostering a strong sense of equality and belonging to our community.
As a school we want to ensure we have the highest standards of uniform at Pakefield and our students wear their uniform with pride. We believe that our formal but comfortable dress code creates a professional and purposeful working environment.
We ask all our parents and carers to ensure that their child’s uniform is compliant and attends school in the correct uniform daily.
Both compulsory and optional items of uniform must be purchased from Screens, with the exception of trousers, shorts, shirts and school shoes. Our supplier details are at the bottom of this policy.
General Guidelines
- The school expects shirts to be tucked in, blazer sleeves rolled down and ties to be in line with the student’s belly button. Skirts should be worn at an appropriate knee-length.
- Whilst in school coats and outer layers are to be removed. No hoods are allowed up on the school site.
- If in our judgement, an item of uniform is damaged, unsuitable or inappropriate a new one must be purchased immediately - this includes a student’s skirt and footwear.
- The school will communicate uniform discrepancies directly to parents and inform them of the expected actions. We would expect parents to support the school to meet the school's standard.
- The school will ask a student to go home briefly to remedy a breach of the school’s uniform and may issue a dermerit or further sanction if the uniform isn’t correct.
- Students may be removed from learning with their peers if their uniform isn’t correct and compliant.

The school cannot be responsible for any injury caused by wearing unsuitable jewellery or for jewellery going missing. We reserve the right to confiscate unsuitable jewellery.

- Students who refuse to remove additional/unsuitable jewellery will be sanctioned and may be taught apart from their peers or sent home.
- Tongue piercings and other facial piercings not stipulated are not allowed and will need to be removed. Refusal to remove will mean students are taught separately from their peers. Clear retainers are permitted.
This is the same for all students.
Cosmetics, Make Up and Hair Styles
- Students are expected to keep within the appearance standards that we expect at Pakefield. Hair should be neat, tidy and not exaggerated. Extremes of hairstyles including cut and colour are not permitted at Pakefield High School. Long hair must be tied back for practical lessons such as Technology, PE or Science.
- Make-up should be discreet and in keeping with a student’s appearance. Extremes or excessive make-up is not permitted, and any student deemed to be wearing too much makeup will be asked to remove it or will be sanctioned accordingly to school policy.
- Coloured nail varnish or artificial gel, acrylic or false nails are not advised and will inhibit students' ability to complete practical tasks in Food technology, PE, Science etc. This is at the discretion of the department and teaching staff. If a student can’t practically take part, they will have alternative work provided. Persistent failure to meet standards to practically take part in lessons can lead to sanctions.
Pakefield High School reserves the right to make the final decision on matters regarding uniform, jewellery and make up suitability for school.
In any matter of dispute, the decision of the Year leads or the Senior Leadership Team will be final. All items of clothing and personal property should be clearly marked with the owner’s name.
The updated uniform policy will take effect from the start of the Autumn term.
